Research
The
contribution of this University in terms of new
varieties/technology since its establishment (1982) has been
substantial. The major areas of research, in the University
include the following Crop Improvement, Crop Production, Crop
Protection, Nutrient Management, Horticulture, Post Harvest
Technology, Forestry, Environmental Sciences, Sericulture,
Animal Sciences, Fisheries.
Extension
Education
SKUAST, created a nuclear setup
at its inception for transfer of available technology. During
1982-83 inherited two rural extension training centers, for
imparting basic agricultural training to field level personnel.
These were rechristened as Krishi Vigyan Kendras and mandate
included “Learning by Doing” for the practicing farmers.
simultaneously initiated facilities for scientist farmer
interaction through farmers field days. During, 1985-86 also
created facilities to support the State’s NAEP (T&V)
programme and participation in Operational Research Project.
Elaborate training facilities were created through augmentation of
staff and field aids. Lab. to land and national demonstrations
programme were re-oriented University instituted farm advisory
services Kisan Goshti, Field days and Field Visits at most of its
Regional Stations in all the regions of State.
