Mission:

  • Education-Train human resource needed for Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Home Science and allied sectors for the development of the State of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Research-Constantly strive to generate technologies which are scientifically sound, economically viable, practically feasible, socially acceptable and ecologically desirable for increasing crop productivity in order to enhance farm income and to improve the socio-economic position of farmers in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Extension-Assist in the process of Transfer of innovative and modern technologies through dissemination of knowledge in collaboration with the Development Departments of the Government in order to improve the skill-oriented capacity building.

Highlights of Extension Education Activities (including number of KVKs, training programmes / Certificate courses, etc.)

  • Reaching the unreached through the innovative extension methodologies: farm trials, FLDs, Kisanmelas, farmer- scientist interaction meetings, exhibitions, dissemination of technical information through publications, mass media such as press, radio and TV, training extension personnel, development and use of Mobile APPs, ICTs.
  • Established 13 District Agricultural Advisory & Transfer of Technology Centres (DAATTCs) one in each District and 13 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Agricultural Information and Communication Centre, Electronic Media Centre and a Farmers Call Centre for dissemination of latest Agri- Technology.
  • Organized 560 training programmes on crop production, crop protection, climate resilient agriculture, soil health, value addition to millets, Integrated Farming Systems, formation and management of Self-help groups, animal husbandry and seed production etc.-

Strength of the University (Including 5 important achievements):

  • Bestowed with highly skilled and versatile Teaching, Research and Extension personnel.
  • Credited with the development of 4 mega rice varieties viz., BPT 5204, MTU 1001, MTU 1010, MTU 7029, which occupied almost 25% of the rice growing area in the Country.
  • University is at the top in groundnut research in the country as evidenced by the large horizontal expansion of almost 30% of the country’s Groundnut area with ANGRAU varieties like Kadiri- 6, Kadiri-9 and Dharani.
  • Developed and commercialized the technologies such as production of Jaggery Powder, Polyhouse Solar Dryer, Portable Soil Test Kit.
  • Developed and popularized low cost technologies: stem application of pesticides to cotton, zero tillage maize, rice fallow Pulses, Farm pond technology.
  • Introduced innovative programmes like RWEP to under graduate students and DAATTCs under Extension.
  • ANGRAU is the largest seed producer (Breeder seed and Foundation seed) among Agri. Universities in the country and thus supporting the farming community with quality seed supply. In recognition, ICAR conferred the prestigious AICRP-NSP (Crops) Award on ANGRAU for the year 2014-15.
