UG Degree programme:Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari offers six Under Graduate degree programmes viz., B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Forestry, B.Sc. (Agricultural Biotechnology) and B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering).

PG Degree programme: The University offers Post Graduate programmes (for Masters and Ph.D.) in faculty of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agri-Business Management, and Agricultural Engineering.

Diploma courses: The University also offers various Diploma courses in Agriculture, Horticulture and Agricultural Engineering.

Major Areas of Research:

Crop Improvement:

  • Development of new high yielding, better quality and resistant to abiotic and biotic stress varieties of rice, cotton, sugarcane, millets, pulses and oilseeds grown in South Gujarat through conventional and biotechnological approaches.
  • Identification of wild varieties of various crops resistant to biotic and abiotic stress for introduction of genes into available hybrids for enhancing productivity.
  • Collection and conservation of germplasm of various crops of South Gujarat.
  • Research on seed technology.

Plant Protection:

  • Development of IPM/IDM and organic farming packages.
  • Plant protection schedule for important crops.
  • Surveillance & control measures of insect/diseases & crop losses every year.
  • Development/promotion of bio-pesticides for enhancing soil fertility and productivity in eco-friendly manner.

Horticulture:

  • Development of improved hybrids of vegetables rich in nutrition with higher productivity and suitable for export.
  • Development of remunerative package of practices for promoting Urban and Peri-urban horticulture.
  • Package of practices for medicinal and aromatic plants; and floral crops.
  • Standardization of technologies for off-season fruits and vegetable production under protected cultivation as per the need of South Gujarat.

  • Development/standardization of post-harvest technologies for minimizing losses of fruits and vegetables and enhancing income of farmers.

Natural Resource Management:

  • Development of technologies of MIS/ mulching for all crops including fruit and vegetable crops.

  • Research on organic farming including green manuring, plant residues, composting and vermicomposting for enriching soil.

Highlights of Extension Education Activities :( Including Number of KVKs, Training programmes / Certificate Courses etc.)

Navsari Agricultural University is a pioneer institute in the South Gujarat region for transferring the agricultural technologies to the farmers to increase their agricultural production. The Directorate of Extension Education is actively involved in transfer of latest technologies to the farmer’s field and giving its feed back to the research workers. The lead functions of the Directorate are to facilitate planning, coordinating, guiding, executing, implementing, monitoring, supervising, evaluating and reporting the various extension programmes carried out at NAU and to transfer the innovative agricultural technology to the farmers through five Krishi Vigyan Kendras and extension centres. The directorate also acts as mediator for researchers by updating those with field problems of farmers and to help them in developing "Demand Driven Technology.”

University conduct following extension education activities have been performed during last five years (2017-18 to 2021-22)

  • University organized 5126 FLDs during last five years and benefitted 19904 farmers of South Gujarat.
  • NAU organized 1557 On Campus and 1091 Off Campus trainings and benefited 67488 and 45615 farmers, respectively.
  • During this period, 2333 Field Visits/ educational tour were organized which benefitted 11674 famers.
  • The University organized 264 Seminars/crop symposia for farmers, which benefited 25665 farmers and farm women of South Gujarat.
  • Further, 427 Farmers’ Day/Field Days benefitted 20909 farmers.
  • Organization of 430Farmers’/farm women Shibir and 89 Veterinary Clinical Camps benefited 31105 farmers and 11071 cattle owners of South Gujarat, respectively.
  • University organized 188 Krishi Mela/ Agricultural exhibitions which benefitted 180115 famers.
  • NAU also arranged 615 Farmers’ meeting/Krishi Gosthi for benefitting 33657 farmers and farm women.
  • Besides, University also participated in 305 Radio/TV programmes and released 927 literature and press notes in vernacular language for mass communications.
  • Mass communication for disseminating latest technologies has also performed by using “Kisan Mitra App” an android based app. Total 3887 Text messages were sent to the 567802 farmer's mobile and 25693 telephonic/email guidance were given to 90172 farmers
  • Further, 1498 press notes in vernacular language has been released for the benefit of farmers.
  • During last five years, school of Baking conducted 13 one week training and 08 twenty week certificate training course with 149 and 134 students were got certificate of baking course, respectively.
  • Further, 74 workshops/interface meetings were also organized to impart information of latest technologies for extension workers of University and officers of line departments.
  • During last five years, a total of 91 books/booklets, 446 folders, 28 pamphlets and 09 training manuals were published for farmers of South Gujarat.

Strength of the University: (Including 5 important achievement)

  • Presently, NAU has 5 faculties viz., Agriculture; Horticulture; Forestry; Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Biotechnology which offer UG and PG degree programme, we have 08 Colleges under the jurisdiction of this University including an ASPEE Agri-Business Management Institute at the head-quarters which offers only master degree programme. All the eight constituent colleges of NAU, Navsari are accredited by “National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board” of ICAR, New Delhi up to March 31, 2026.
  • Besides, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari also offers Master Degree programme in 27 subjects of Agricultural, Horticultural, Forestry, Agribusiness Management and Agricultural Engineering faculties and doctoral degree programme in 21 subjects of Agricultural, Horticultural, Forestry and Agribusiness Management faculties. The NAU, Navsari is a cosmopolitan campus and during the year 2021-22, had admitted a total of 770 students including 434 students to undergraduate degree programmes and 336 students to postgraduate degree programmes. University also admitted 257 students in four diploma courses offered by seven Polytechnics. NAU, Navsari also has infrastructures like auditorium, sports complex, central library, central examination hall (AC), International hostel, Health centre, Bank & Post office in the main campus.
  • University has 897.26 ha of land at different 15locations of South Gujarat with cultivable area710.99 ha. The NAU, Navsari receives funds from Government of Gujarat, ICAR, New Delhi, Government of India and other private organizations for undertaking research for fulfilling the needs of farmers of South Gujarat. During the year 2021-22, a total of 274 schemes were operational, which includes 192 schemes funded by Government of Gujarat, 32 schemes funded by ICAR and GoI and 50 schemes financed by private companies and other agencies.
  • Furthermore, the NAU has released 105 high yielding good quality varieties of various crops including 18 varieties of cotton, 20 varieties of rice, 9 varieties of sugarcane, 8 varieties of sorghum, 8 varieties of nagli, 4 varieties of pigeon pea, 4 of adenium, 3 each varieties of turmeric, vari, Indian bean and moong, 2 varieties each of niger and mango ginger, 1 each variety of cowpea, sunnhemp, little gourd, pointed gourd, castor, brinjal, tomato, malabarneem, urd bean, greater yam, sesbania, elephant foot yam and okra. Moreover, the NAU endorsed, 1 each variety of pigeon pea-Vaishali, sorghum- PhuleRevati, rice- NAUR-1 (Aerobic condition), sweet potato- Bhukanti and soybean-Phule Agrani. The University also developed 681 technologies including 282 in the field of Natural Resource Management, 201 in Horticulture and Agro-forestry, 97 in Plant Protection, 48 in Agricultural Engineering, 44 in Animal Science, 8 in Basic Sciences and one in Social Science for benefitting farming community.
    NAU, Navsari Bagged an NAIP Project on “Value addition chain of banana pseudostem” which was strengthened under NAHEP-CAAST Sub-project. Under this project various products like fibre, paper, cellulose powder, organic liquid fertilizer, candy etc. have been prepared. Further, University has patented technologies for i) Preparation of Novel Organic Fertilizer from Banana pseudostem and ii) Preparation of Candy from central core of Banana pseudostem. The NAU, Navsari has recently signed an International MoU with Accrued Gains Pvt. Ltd., Botswana and Novel Holding Inc., USA for the commercial scale production and marketing of Banana Pseudostem based Organic Liquid Nutrient “NOVEL” (internationally patented technology) in entire Africa and USA. These patented technologies have been commercialized and retransferred to 41 private companies of India.
    The University has very good set up for the fruit fly trap production (Nauroji Stone house Fruit Fly Trap). It is very much cost effective and about 2.50 lakh Nauroji Stone house fruit fly trap, sold over last 16 years and which benefited of 81,840/ha by spending merely Rs. 350/ha as per the estimate of 2009, which has further increased in the recent context.

  • University has very good set up for research on liquid Bio fertilizer Production under “Bio fertilizers Production Unit”. The NAU has developed six types of liquid bio fertilizers using locally native microbs like Azotobacter chroococcum, Rhizobium, Gluconacetobactor diazotrophicus, Azospirillium lipoferum, phosphorus solubilizing bacteria like Bacillus megaterium var. phosphaticum and potash mobilizing bacteria Fraturia aurantia. University produced. More than 8 lakh litres of different Biofertilizers & Biopesticides sold since inception of this project.
  • University has very good extension set-up comprised of 5 KVKs (Navsari, Surat, Vyara, Waghai and Dediyapada), ATIC, SSK and School of Baking at Navsari. Through the extension functionary, the university conducted following activities during year 2017-18 to 2021-22 : 427 FLDs, 1557 On Campus & 1091 Off Campus trainings, 125 Field Visits/ educational tour, 74 workshops/interface meetings, 264 Seminars/crop symposia for farmers, 427 Farmers’ Day/Field Days, 430 Farmers’/farm women Shibir, 89 Veterinary Clinical Camps, 188 Krishi Mela/ Agricultural exhibitions, 615 Farmers’ meeting/Krishi Gosthi, 305 Radio/TV programmes, 927 literature and press notes in vernacular language for mass communications.

    • Mahindra Samridhi India Agri Award- 2014, to the KVK, Navsari for significant impact on the farming community.

    • The KVK Navsari was adjudged as “Best Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Zonal)” by ICAR during the year 2015-16.
    • The KVK Navsari also received “Certificate of Merit” in the category of Best Innovative work in agriculture development by Federation of Gujarat Industries, Vadodara on September 11, 2016.
    • Recognition for the Development of Landmark Cotton Variety by Indian Society of Genetics and Plant Breeding on 11th February, 2017

    • Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Krishi Vigyan Protshahan Puruskar Award 2017 (Zone-VIII) to KVK, Tapi by ICAR, New Delhi with Rs. 2,25,000/- and Award Certificate during 10th National Conference of KVKs at New Delhi on 17/03/2018.
    • The University library of NAU has received Best Usage of “J-Gate@CeRA” award (2018) and Best CeRA Ambassador Award (2019) for West Zone by ICAR-CeRA.
    • The research stations of NAU, received Best Performing AICRP centre on fruits-Banan-Sapota-Papaya (2016, 2020 & 2021), small millets (2017, 2022) and tuber crops (2018, 2020, 2021), IFS (2021) and sugarcane (2018).
    • As per the “Ranking of Agricultural Universities” conducted by ICAR, the NAU, Navsari was ranked XXII (2016), IX (2017), XIV (2018), XLII (2019) XXXI (2020) during the last five years. Moreover, consecutively for last three years NAU, Navsari was also bestowed with 4 star rating by Government of Gujarat under GSIRF ranking.

  • Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Antyodaya Krishi Puruskar Award was conferred from Dr.Trilochan Mohapatra, Hon’ble Director General of ICAR, New Delhi for the year 2018 (Zone-VIII) to Mrs. Vasava Ushaben Dineshbhai At: MandirFaliya, Village: Pachpipri, Tal: Sagbara, Dist: Narmada by ICAR, New Delhi with Rs. 50,000/- and Award Certificate during ICAR Foundation Day-2019 on July 16, 2019 at New Delhi.

IARI Innovative Farmer Award-2018-19

  • IARI Innovative Farmer Award 2018 was bestowed to Shri Jigarbhai Pravinbhai Desai from Shiker village, Valodtaluka and dist. Tapi during Krishi Unnati Mela, New Delhi on March 07, 2019.
  • IARI Innovative Farmer Award 2018 was conferred to Shri Dhirendra kumar Bhanubhai Desai of Panetha village in Jhaghadiya taluka of Bharuch district during Krishi Unnati Mela, New Delhi on March 07, 2019.
  • Shri Jigarbhai Desai of Tapi district received "National Best Innovative Farmer Award" for Best Working Innovative Technology in Agriculture on January 9, 2020 at NASC, New Delhi.
  • IARI Innovative Farmer Award 2020 was conferred to Smt. Ajitaben Sanjaybhai Naik of Gandeva village of Gandevi taluka of Navsari district during Pusa Agriculture Science Fair held from March 1-3, 2020 at New Delhi.
